Still enthusiastically working on our respective projects today. There are only five 'shop' days left.
Rafter system for a sign to be used in a park.
Heavy duty timber frame coffee table and another saw horse.
Decorative brace which can be added to an existing eave.
Scarf joint bench (left) and putting square pegs into a Japanese timber frame park sign.
For two days this week we were away visiting timber frame shops and sawmills.. Some builders had a skeleton crew of staff working with portable hand tools. Other manufacturers had large warehouses with the frames being built and assembled inside. Automated equipment is able to cut the joinery and label it according to location in the timber frame.
We're all just pressing on until the final day this week trying to finish our projects. Some of us are already done our tables, sawhorses and just helping those now that have a little more work to do.
This sign project was worked on by a few of the students in the class. They drew up their own design, milled the materials, cut the joinery and assembled it on the last day of the program. Very impressive! That is certainly the greatest reward of all, seeing your design through to completion.

Timber framing program in 4 1/2 minutes! A series of clips that I assembled into a mini movie of the course. HQ clip here...
This is the last page of my web diary of timber framing at the College of the Rockies. Just a quick set of notes and pictures of three months of focusing on the craft.  I welcome any feedback and suggestions to improve this site.
